SEND Coordinator - Mrs Kim Hache
SEN Governor - Mr Ben Pickles
At St. Joseph's Catholic Primary School, we firmly believe in addressing the particular needs of every pupil and overcoming potential barriers.
Lessons are planned 'to ensure that there are no barriers to every pupil achieving. In many cases, such planning will mean that these pupils will be able to study the full national curriculum.' National Curriculum for England July 2013.
Do you have an SEN query that you would like to discuss with the SENDCo?

The SEN Code of Practice (2014) reflects the changes introduced by the Children and Families Act 2014.
- It covers the 0-25 age range and includes guidance relating to disabled children and young people as well as those with SEN
- There is a strong emphasis on the involvement of children, young people and parents
- There is a focus on high aspirations on improving outcomes for children and young people
- Statements and Learning Difficulties Assessments will be replaced by Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
- It requires the Local Authority to publish its Local Offer
The Local Offer

What is an EHCP?
Most children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)will have their needs met in their local mainstream settings. These educational settings should try to meet the needs of these children and young people. Some children and young people may not make expected progress, despite these efforts to identify, assess and meet the special educational need. In these cases, schools or parents can consider requesting an EHC assessment.
This assessment involves a process of gathering information from the relevant people or agencies, including the views, interests and aspirations of the parents and child or young person. The needs assessment will help to determine whether we need to make additional provision through an EHCP. These plans replace Statements of SEN for children and young people with the most complex needs, from birth up to the age 25.
An application for an EHCP assessment can be submitted by parents and carers. This is done through an online portal. You can click the link below to access the portal to start the application process.
For further support with a parental application please view this '1 minute guide' by clicking here.
What happens next with an EHCP?
When deciding whether to issue an EHCP the local authority will take into account whether the needs of the child or young person can reasonably be met from resources normally available to the school.
An EHC assessment will not always lead to an EHC plan. However it may help to decide how the education setting can meet the child or young person’s needs without an EHCP. It should not take approximately 20 weeks from requesting an assessment to a final EHCP being issued.
