Phonics

See the list of websites below to access games. The children particularly enjoy the Phonics Play website. There are a number of free games that don't require a login.

Tricky words - Click here to view the different 'tricky words' songs. Test yourself by trying to read them aloud without the sound before trying to spell them correctly.

In our shape, space and measure lessons our new topic will be mass. This is looking at how heavy something is. We will be comparing if items are 'heavier' or 'lighter'. Can you find some items and compare them?

Draw some pictures and state which are heavier and lighter. You might be able to use things that you find at home. Make a list by drawing your items.

Spend some time practising your number formation. You can do this with your finger in the air as well as writing some. Make sure that you check you are writing them the correct way! Follow this video to help you.

English

In Year 1 we love the Julia Donaldson stories. Did you catch the new animation for her book 'Tiddler' over Christmas? Click here to access it.

In our English lessons we have been writing sentences that include the word 'and'. Could you practice writing some sentences about what happened to Tiddler?

Read the story Zog or watch the video here

RE

On Monday it was the Feast of the Epiphany. You can watch the Mark 10 Mission worship here to find out why it is a special day.

In our RE lessons we will be thinking about celebrations we share with our families.

Think about your own family and the kind things they do for you. Read through the information about why our families are so important to us.

Draw or paint a picture of someone who is special to you in your family. Write a sentence to explain why they are so special and what they do for you.

Belonging in my family

Science

Our ongoing topic is 'Seasonal Changes'. Use the current weather that we are experiencing to think about what Winter is now like.

Draw and label some pictures of clothes that we wear and activities that we might do in this new season. Think about how this is different to Autumn. For example, what do trees look like now.

These links might help you to think of ideas:

The British Winter - BBC Teach

Our new science topic is all about animals. Choose a favourite animal and create a mini-fact file about it. This could be a pet or a wild animal.

Where does it live? What does it eat? Does it lay eggs? Do parts of it's body play an important role?

Continuing on from yesterday when you chose an animal to create a fact file about, today we are learning a little about what a mammal is. Look at this information and watch the video to help you to understand which animals are mammals and how we can identify mammals.

Choose 3 different mammals - draw and label them.

Extension - Can you write down 3 facts about a mammal?

What are mammals?
